The Letesknits Trunk Show - This is Knit
We're always honoured when a big name designer accepts an invitation to come to Dublin, and often even more so when they decide to make a return trip. Justyna Lorkowska insists she doesn't think of herself as a "big name", but when Malabrigo are knocking on your door for patterns and interviews, then the knitting world has already applied that label for sure. So we were thrilled to have her teach at This is Knit for a second year in a row, and even more excited than usual because this time Jacqui and I got to take one of her classes! justyna_lorkowska_teaching_at_this_is_knit We both sat in on the Eastern Uncrossed Knitting session, and thoroughly enjoyed learning a new method of knitting.  There has been a bout of knitting-related injuries here lately, and so this class presented an opportunity to use different joints and muscles for our projects, and allow a bit of respite for the other overworked ones.  I've been practising a fair bit since, and I'm planning a "vanilla" project to refine my technique. Perhaps even Justyna's Buccaneer? buccaneer This beauty is one of the sample projects in the Letesknits Trunk Show that we currently have in the shop.  Justyna kindly left us a selection of her exquisite finished designs to share with you all over the coming weeks.  We've already had a lot of fun swishing about in her shawls and cuddling in to her hats and mittens, and we'd encourage you to do the same as soon as you can! Here's just a little preview of all the pretties  - do keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram profiles for more over the next little while... aisling The Aisling Shawl combines soothing soft tones and eye-catching feminine details. Why not make your own version in Townhouse Yarns Fade St 4ply? A shawl this beautiful deserves a yarn that luxurious... iseult_yarn_nua If you fancy a little something more substantial, then Iseult may be the shawl for you.  With a mesh body, and a delicate and flowing lace edge, this generously sized shawl is knit in sport weight yarn. 6 skeins of Carol Feller's unique Nua yarn will see you wrapped up in exquisite warmth all winter... soulwarmer The Soul Warmer cowl makes the best of colour-coordinating mini skeins, and is an ideal project for learning new stitch patterns too.  Try one with some leftovers from your stash, or indulge in some Spire Singles by Townhouse Yarns (coming soon to our website). (All the pattern links above are to Ravelry, where you can purchase the individual designs.  Remember that if you don't have a Paypal account then we can purchase them on your behalf in the shop.) Justyna may be humble about her status, but her stunning designs and talent for teaching shine brightly on her behalf.  She's also just a lot of fun to have around, with her genuine interest in people and a slight mischievous streak that can lead to lots of giggles! iseult We hope to catch up with her again soon, but in the meantime you still have a chance to catch up with her designs.  They'll be with us until mid-August, so come in for a squish as soon as you can!
