Winter Honey

Winter Honey - This is Knit
Winter Honey - This is Knit
With no real sign yet of spring here in Dublin (or much elsewhere that we hear of), we thought it fitting to bring you another winter-warmer project today.  Jacqui has more or less been living in her "Winter Honey", so we asked her to tell us a little more about it.  I'll hand over now, but not before letting you know that this yarn is now 20% off (while stocks last!)... This stunning shawl by Andrea Mowry had caught my attention some time ago and had been percolating at the back of my mind ever since... Shortly before Christmas I learned that we were unlikely to be able to order any more stock of Debbie Bliss Falkland Aran, and that spurred me in to action.  I knew that I *had* to have Winter Honey in the Camel shade from this range. The pattern offers two choices size-wise: what Andrea calls a "shawlette" and a "full shawl" size.  I decided on the smaller version, which took three skeins of the Falkland Aran and produces a very generously sized and incredibly cosy scarf.   While the organically farmed merino yarn is beautifully soft in the hand, it also holds the texture of the stitch pattern remarkably well. This pattern and yarn are so well suited to each other! I finished my version just on time for the recent snowfall here, and at that point my shawl and I became inseparable. Then, just a few short weeks later, my Winter Honey was held up admirably against the snow again as we trekked over and back to Edinburgh Yarn Festival for the day.   Lisa snapped this picture of me in the queue, kitted out in yet more Falkland Aran ! (I was also wearing my Curam Hat, designed by Ysolda.) Boy oh boy, was that day cold! Happily I was able to catch up with Andrea herself that day, to say hello whilst wearing my snuggly shawl... ------------------ Thanks Jacqui! We've actually had quite a run of Andrea Mowry designs flying off the needles here at TIK. Did you see Jenny's colourful Comfort Fade Cardi? Then there's Joy's gorgeous Weekender, and I'm just about to cast off Ramble too!  Do you ever find yourself knitting a bunch of projects from the same designer in quick succession? Just in case the sun decides to make another appearance (however brief), I can attest to the practicality of this Winter Honey in slightly warmer weather too. One day last week I stole it from Jacqui for a quick run around outside with my two young boys, and it did a great job of keeping the chill at bay.  So - there you have it - a pretty and practical scarf that will work for whatever the weather brings! ;) If you'd like to knit your own Winter Honey, then you can pick up the pattern over on Ravelry here. We have limited stock remaining of Falkland Aran, so grab yours at 20% off while you can!
