Cornish Sun by Julie Knits in Paris

Joy recently knit the Cornish Sun pattern by Julie Dubreux, aka Julie Knits in Paris, using four colours of Katia's Maxi Merino. Not only is this a super speedy knit in a bulky weight yarn, but Joy managed to get three coordinating hats out of the four colours of Maxi Merino! If you have some gift knitting in mind, Cornish Sun would be absolutely ideal.

three bulky weight knitted hats in shades of yellow, blue, and white
Aren't these so cheerful?! That yellow really pops against the blue and white shades of the Maxi Merino. Cornish Sun would be a great project for those knitters looking to dip their toes in colourwork. Other potential yarn options for this hat pattern would be the Alpaca Blend Chunky from Rico Design or Katia's Big Merino. You can definitely knit one of these chunky hats in an evening. Betsy by Jane Richmond

I adore this hat so much I have made two and am planning a third for myself since I gave the other two away as gifts! Betsy is a super cute toque designed by Jane Richmond that features a simple yet eye catching lace pattern. Knit in chunky weight yarn, you can definitely cast on and cast off in one evening - perfect for a last minute gift (trust me, I've done it!).

Any of our chunky weight yarns would work for this hat pattern, but I think Big Merino by Katia or even The Fibre Co.'s Tundra would be great options (I have my eye on that stunning blue shade, Blue Lagoon).

Ribbed Beanie by Woolly Wormhead

Are you looking for a more masculine bulky weight hat to knit? Check out this classic Ribbed Beanie pattern from Woolly Wormhead. A very simple - and free! - ribbed beanie is always a winner. Try this hat pattern in Maxi Merino or Big Merino from Katia. You can't go wrong with a solid colour in this design.

Northward by Tin Can Knits

If you're a newer knitter looking to level up your knitting skills, why not test the waters with a simple cabled hat pattern? Northward would be a perfect first cable project! Any of our chunky weight yarns would suit this design, but if you want to get really wild with some colour, why not take a look at Mistero by Adriafil? I also think this hat would be so cute with a pom pom to top it off.
