Start Spinning

We had an almost tropical afternoon on the Powerscourt balcony yesterday, as the sun was out in force :D The tropical theme was picked up nicely by R’s fibre (a mixed batt with sparkly angelina from the ever-talented Laura Hogan).

Drop spindles abounded, with D and Dee, showing us how it’s done on the top whorl version:

And E was using her gorgeous homemade bottom whorl spindle with her fibre. We’re begging her to make more for the shop!

My wheel had it’s second outing at a Spin In and I finished spinning singles from a BFL Laura Hogan Top. Next stop: adventures in plying!

Thoughts are very definitely turning to autumn around here, with the chill in the air and knitters-on-Twitter discussing what hat patterns to make for the coming cold days…

It really is the season for fibre crafts and, if you are interested in taking up something new, why not come along to the Dublin Spin this Sunday? There’ll be spindles and wheels a-plenty and fabulous fibre to fondle!

The shop will also be back to Sunday trading from this week (after our late summer Sunday breaks) and we’ll be offering double loyalty card stamps on spinning supplies to celebrate!

Hope to see you there :D

Pretty Pictures

If you’re attending our Yarn Tasting evening on Thursday 9th September then we have a very special additional treat for you, courtesy of Julie (Rav name: Elven) and Siobhan (Rav name: Iontach). Both of these talented ladies happen to take *very* pretty pictures of finished knit and crochet projects and they have kindly offered to host a “photo booth” on the night.

This is how it will work:

You are welcome to bring one or two of your finished projects along to be photographed and then Julie or Siobhan will take your details and email you on your photos after the event. You can then use these pictures on your blog on Ravelry project page, or just to brag about how talented you are to friends/relatives/neighbours/strangers on the street!

The girls will also be handing out a little general guide to getting the best project pictures on your own camera at home. This service is being offered free of charge but a small donation to Age Action would be welcome.

We are hoping everyone who took part in the summer Annis KAL will bring along their finished shawls. We would love to put together a collage for proud display on the website :D

Yarn Tasting 2010

You can now sign up to attend Yarn Tasting 2010 :D

A space at the event will cost €20 and this will entitle you to sample everything on offer on the night. The list is currently running to 30 samples +

When the €20 is paid we will take your name and contact details so we can keep everyone updated with news on the event. You will then collect your ticket on the night, which will contain a list of all the products on tasting. Your ticket will be checked off each time you collect a sample.

We’ll have to limit the places available and also finish taking sign ups on Monday 6th September. This will allow us to make sure there is a sample of each product for everyone and to plan seating, refreshments and other goodies!

You can book to attend in person, by phone (using laser or credit card) or via the internet-wonders of Paypal (just drop us an email and we’ll send you a Paypal form)…

Yarn Tasting 2010

The official time & date for Yarn Tasting 2010 is 6pm Thursday 9th September – add it to your diaries folks!

We’ll be changing things around a little this year to enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the evening :D

The differences this time will be:

1. Tickets/Tasting Vouchers will go on sale ahead of time and should be available shortly. Watch this space for annoucements…
2. We would like to have one ticket for the whole evening this time so that everyone who attends will get a sample of every yarn & fibre on offer. This list is at 30 and could still grow…
3. We envisage having everything on display as before but “releasing” different yarn samples throughout the evening. Perhaps starting with chunky yarns and working our way to laceweight or vice-versa :D
4. Two wonderful Ravellers have offered their expertise for a special added extra to the evening that we think you will all love – details to follow!

Things that will stay the same:

1. There will still be Raffle prizes on the night…
2. And lots of sample garments to try on…
3. And refreshments…
4. And fun times to be had!

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask them here. We’re really looking forward to this event and we’re hoping to make it even bigger and better than last year!
